Description:
Abstract:
These ArcGIS 9.3. ESRI layers represent predictive models for snow crab (Chionoecetes opilio TSN 107315, Aphia 107315) presence/absence, abundance and biomass. This work is based on a peer-reviewed publication by the authors (Hardy et al. 2011; more details are provided in the text below). It is the first predictive model for Alaska's snow crab based on machine learning ensembles (averaged MARS, TreeNet and Random Forest). These models are based on compiled crab survey stations for the Bering Sea (latitude North 77 degrees and South 57 degrees; longitude 170 East and 144 West). The underlying data are unique and were compiled from several public und non-published sources, namely OBIS, its data contributors (Arctic Ocean Diversity project ArcOD), the Alaska state government and local investigators. Internal model assessments were done, and models performed good to very good; spatial predictions are assessed as good for presence/absence, partly acceptable for crab abundance and for crab biomass. This is an open access model and data are available upon request, and for further model improvement. For more details please see the citations, or contact the authors.
