This data set contains the movement and behavior data of a M.Sc. study, carried out in the summer of 2005 at the Large Animal Research Station (LARS) (University of Alaska-Fairbanks, USA), the studied species was Caribou (Rangifer tarantus granti). The movement data was collected with a GEKO 201 GPS device, and the UTM Zone 6-W coordinates were used. The behavior data was observed visually and recorded with the Data Input Application of LARS.
- Purpose:

To test the influence of disturbances on movement patterns and foraging behavior of Caribou. This was tested in six different experiments (2 different food distributions and three disturbance types (control, noise, physical)).

The movement data is geo-referenced to a point southwest from the study site (East pasture of LARS). This reference location was: 459000m, 4195000m UTM. The coordinates in the movement data was recorded with a five seconds interval. The estimated accuracy of the GPS device was 3-4 meter (according to Garmin.com). All observation days were cut into samples of 15 minutes, i.e. 180 coordinates. M.Sc. study details are give in the Cross Reference section.

The animals counts were done according to convention: sorting under a stereo microscope after sieving and preservations. A 250µm mesh was used for sieving. Accuracy is unknown. Box cores likely lose some light epifauna during coring process, but this is the most common deep-sea infauna collection tool used.
