Description:
Abstract:
This data set describes the distribution data of 30 plants from the Bignoniaceae family in South America (continental Brazil, Equador, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru). It was compiled and used for the NCEAS working group, project ID: 4980, as described in Elith et al. (2006, 2020). The project compiled data for 6 regions in the world, for a total of 226 anonymised species including birds, vascular plants, reptiles and bats. Each data set has presence-only (and optionally background) training data to build models, and presence/absence data to evaluate models. This is one of those 6 datasets. Full details about the data are provided in Elith et al. (2006, 2020); this metadata statement gives key details. The mean number of records per species is 74 for presence only records, and 12 for presence/absence across 152 unique sites. For modeling purposes, this multi species data set was extended with 11 climatic predictor variables. Data are provided as an R package, as .csv files (species data and environmental samples) and also as .tif raster files (environmental data) with a cell size of approximately 1000m.
Purpose:
This dataset about 30 vascular plants of South America is provided as a proper description of ISO-compliant FGDC open access data for modeling research purposes. It is expected that the data are valuable for benchmark assessments of modeling methods and evaluation approaches. This metadata set complements several research publications in the NCEAS working group, most recently Elith et al. (2006, 2020).
