Join us as several mentors share their experiences in volunteering with the Refugee Assistance and Immigration Services program, offered by Catholic Social Services, welcoming and orienting new refugees to Anchorage. Family mentors have volunteer agreements for a minimum of six months and a wealth of new experiences and new cultural understandings for themselves! Nathan Welker, a student at UAA, began as a family mentor as a capstone experience in the Civic Engagement Certificate program and following an internship in Senegal. He created this panel presentation as a part of his capstone course.en_US
