Public Perceptions Regarding Fire and Fuel Mitigation

In fall 2025, UAA researchers held focus groups to talk to Anchorage municipality residents about their attitudes towards a wildfire mitigation technique called fuel treatments. Findings indicated residents support fuel treatments, but had questions about aesthetic and environmental implications, financial barriers, and the policy process.
