Description
Research consistently affirms that good teachers are critical for a child’s academic success, as well as their long-term social and economic outcomes. However, high teacher turnover disrupts instructional continuity and hurts student achievement. In Alaska, maintaining a stable educator workforce has been a challenge for nearly three decades. This report updates the state’s longitudinal retention data to report on trends in teacher turnover from 2013 to 2024. The report finds that, while the majority of Alaska’s educators stay at their main schools from year to year, overall turnover has trended upward since 2013 (with the exception of reduced turnover during the COVID-19 pandemic).
