Abstract
This project seeks to design and implement a customized project management framework aimed at enhancing planning, execution, accountability, and documentation within Alaska Venture Fund (AVF), a small non-profit organization. Given that non-profits frequently function with limited resources and are staffed by individuals lacking technical expertise, a streamlined yet effective project management approach is essential to ensure the framework's usability and usefulness for program managers. Alaska Venture Fund has been struggling with implementation and execution of project ideas and goals. The framework seeks to help staff better understand how to carry work from the ideation phase through completion with a standard set of tools and associated guidance. The proposed framework will draw from widely recognized methodologies within project management best practices, including Agile, Lean, and PMBOK, while also being tailored to address the organization’s specific structure and requirements. The project will involve evaluating existing workflows, identifying deficiencies, and engaging key stakeholders. In particular, the project will build a toolkit consisting of templates for project charters, task management, project schedules, standard operating procedures, budgeting frameworks, and personnel reviews. The goal of the work is to develop practical tools that empower AVF staff to more effectively deliver work products on time, within budget, and in accordance with project scope. By establishing a consistent and scalable framework, AVF can create standardized protocols for task execution, enhance collaboration and communication among internal teams, and increase the impact of its programs and initiatives. The ultimate objective is to develop a straightforward, repeatable model that supports both strategic initiatives and daily operations, thereby enabling the non-profit to more effectively achieve its goals. If proven correct, then these principles and tools can be adapted and universalized to be implemented at other capacity strapped organizations.
