Abstract
This capstone project, conducted by Whitney Flores and Kellie Puff, focuses on the development of a comprehensive business plan for a proposed hospitality project management firm, The Flores & Puff Project Table. The firm will initially specialize in supporting the restaurant industry in Alaska, with potential for expansion into other tourism and hospitality sectors. Given Alaska’s growing culinary landscape and operational complexities, this project evaluates the feasibility of establishing a project management business tailored to the state’s economic and cultural environment. The project is guided by the hypothesis that hospitality businesses would benefit from specialized support in areas such as operational improvement, strategic growth planning, workflow development, and market entry. To test this hypothesis, the study employs a mixed-methods approach combining stakeholder engagement, market research, and industry analysis. Preliminary research indicated that workflow inefficiencies and poorly managed projects can significantly affect revenue, staffing stability, and operational performance. These impacts were further examined through stakeholder interviews and secondary data analysis. The resulting business plan evaluates market demand, competitive positioning, and long-term sustainability while providing a structured framework for launching the venture. Ultimately, the project aims to address a gap in specialized project management services within Alaska’s hospitality industry.
