Abstract

Project professionals managing rural projects should have working knowledge or experience that allows them to work efficiently and effectively given the unique constraints and challenges of rural project work. Rural being defined in project management context as: A place with few available resources and increased logistical considerations. Unfortunately, obtaining the experience for remote projects management requires investment in time and human resources. Whether it is by the company or the subject matter expert assigned to coach/train the new project professional, this presents an issue of time and resources used to train each new project professional and get them up to speed on what goes on in a rural project. A written reference, such as a book that provides basic insight and education on rural project management practices, would alleviate this investment in time and serve as a handy and detailed introduction to what to expect when working in logistically challenging environments. This book will provide an introduction to rural projects and the basics of what to expect when working with them in a creative format that both educates and entertains with real references to project work from highly experienced organizations and similar research by fellow UA Scholars.
