Description

Remediation of improperly plugged and abandoned oil and gas wells has drawn substantial federal funding, but identifying which historical wells retain a living responsible party is a prerequisite to remediation.  Using Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission records, we resolved the 178 distinct operators of record on thousands of plugged and abandoned wells and spatially and temporally mapped Alaska's plugged and abandoned well population.
