Abstract
Rhoda’s Body is a fragmented, multi-perspective hybrid narrative that examines personhood and identity in the wake of an irrevocable traumatic experience. Arising from the neurodivergent experience of feeling alien in a human world / human skin, this story takes that concept literally and, through Rhoda, explores the struggle that neurodivergent individuals often undergo when dealing with drastic change and even everyday life in an unaccommodating world. Although a trauma event is the catalyst and a lasting theme for this story, hope and joy emerge in Rhoda’s life as she realizes her own strengths and discovers new support around her. By experimenting with form and twining together several character voices, Rhoda’s Body emulates the inherent multiplicity of narrative and builds toward the idea that to not only survive, but thrive, everyone needs human connection.
